Inpatient Rehab - Always Be Happy

How Will People React to My Impatient Rehab Stay

Inpatient drug rehab can be a very frightening thing all on its own. Explaining it to others just adds to the fear. How will your friends and family react to your stay. How will your boss or other employees. If you are planning a self therapy stay, you might be wondering how to explain it.

Family

Your family might be the most understanding. They have probably asked you about your drug problem and already know you are going to see treatment. The fact that you chose inpatient treatment should not be a surprise to them.

This is particularly true if you are close to your family and have discussed this before. If they are not supportive, it is usually because they are scared. Inpatient drug rehab represents change and some do not like change, particularly if they are drug users themselves.

Friends

Your friends will probably react about how your family does. True friends will be happy that you have decided to get help. Again, they probably saw the decision coming and will understand and be supportive.

Employers

Your employer might react differently. Explaining that you are getting help and that you will be away for a bit will be met by one of two reactions. The first will be to be happy or relieved for you because if your addiction is bad enough, you have had some problems at work.

The second will be surprise and possibly threats. Unfortunately, this is relatively common although more and more companies are offering addiction help and drug abuse therapy, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

Regardless of how people will react, it is important to get the help that you need. If inpatient treatment is what you need then it is a good idea to get it. Remember that your health is more important than anyone’s reaction to your rehab choice.
